Social Justice

This division covers many subjects like violence against women, poverty, pay equity, feminism, and laws and the amendment of laws.

There is a need for ongoing discussion and unrelenting work. Some of our objectives are to change the attitudes, values and systems that help maintain inequities towards women in our society, as well as to expose the violence inflicted on women.

Activities

  • Annual awareness and action campaigns to eliminate all forms of violence against women, including the Take Back The Night March
  • Workshops and conferences on various topics (women’s rights, feminism, pay equity, etc.) (see calendar of activities)
  • Territorial representation on committees to review and propose amendments to laws
  • Special projects

Health and Well-being

This division allows Les EssentiElles to promote health to women, to value women’s contribution in the areas of health care, the arts, culture and sports.

Programs and activities

For Francophone families: Healthy Moms, Dads and Babies (CPNP)
For Francophones and Francophiles over 50: Healthy aging (Vieillir en santé) Les EssentiElles is the organization responsible for the Francophone Health Network - Partenariat communauté en santé (PCS).

Activities

  • Art and craft workshops (necklace making, knitting, visual art workshop)
  • Artistic events to promote women artists (exhibition of women’s art, plays, performances, etc.)
  • Workshop in partnership with the PCS on women’s health (breast health, sexual and reproductive health, etc.)
  • Workshops and special activities for the Franco50 group (retirement education, menopause, etc.)

Women in the Francophonie

This division of Les EssentiElles integrates comparative gender-based analysis in collaboration and in partnership with other Francophone organizations and committees. Les EssentiElles can then ensure that the different realities of men and women are taken into consideration when developing programs and policies in all areas of activity in which Francophones are engaged.

Activities

  • Networking and partnerships with Yukon Anglophone women's groups to organize bilingual events and activities
  • Representation of various committees on health, education, culture, community governance, social justice, etc.
  • Recognition of women in the Francophone community: Alma-Castonguay Award at the Francophone Gala

Management

The success of our organization is ensured by the day-to-day  operations. Without these behind-the-scenes activities, the organization could not operate.

Management Activities:

Administration, writing reports and funding proposals, creating tools, management and employee development, board of directors meetings, annual general assemblies, recruitment of members and employees, representation on different committees, communication and accounting.
